Learn To Play

THE LEARN TO PLAY PROGRAM

Learn to Play is a program that provides a unique opportunity for families to join the hockey community and for participants to develop fundamental skills to help them succeed both on and off the ice. Created jointly by the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL). Learn to Play’s goal is to inspire youth and welcome more families into the hockey community.

The value of learning to play hockey goes beyond skating and puck-handling skills. Its’ greatest value is the role it plays in the development of character and life skills such as RESPONSIBILITY, RESPECT, INTEGRITY, PERSEVERANCE and TEAMWORK. Learn to Play is the start of a new experience, extending further than the ice. It’s about falling down and getting up, making new friends from teammates and most of all creating fun memories that’ll last a lifetime.

Whether you’re playing, watching or supporting, hockey cultivates community. The Learn to Play Program aims to foster that community by providing unique experiences and exclusive access to NHL clubs and Alumni. By connecting the next generation of hockey stars with current hockey stars, Learn to Play provides families an exciting experience as they take their first step in their hockey journey. Our program is a joint program between NHL Alumni and Clary Anderson Arena.

FAQ

Q. Who is eligible to register for the learn to play hockey program?
A. The program is offered to new, first-time participants (boys and girls) and beginner hockey players. First-time participants are those participants who have not previously been registered to USA Hockey a sanctioned youth hockey program.

Q. Who will the coaches be?
A. The coaches will be from NHL Alumni and Clary Anderson Arena. We will also have junior coaches on the ice to assist as well.

Q. Can I register my child for multiple sessions?
A. Yes, but the main goal is to get these skaters started in the right direction and transition them to the next step! Our Rangers Rookie Series will be offered in the Spring 2023 to take your childs skating up a notch with 1 practice and 1 game a week.

Q. What time should I arrive at the arena?
A. With the early morning sessions we do not want you to have to get up to much earlier so we ask that you arrive 15 minutes early is you are coming with your equipment on or 30 minutes early is you will be putting your equipment on at home. Arriving late is not only taking away time from your child participating but also a disruption to all of the other children who arrived on time. Please do your best to be on time.
